Chivo Hawkins jumped from college into the field he’d prepared for, only to find he wanted more. Nothing wrong with sportscasting, but it failed to scratch a certain itch he felt for purpose. In the ensuing search, Chivo found his way to a Mexican church over the border from El Paso, and from there to seminary where he caught the church planting bug.
To know Chivo Hawkins is to know a major league connector, and thus, by extension, to know a bunch of people who will go out of their way to help you from the minute you meet.
All this plays out at home, too. The Hawkins family are passionate about children who come from difficult backgrounds—Chivo is himself an adoptee and an adoptive father—and their household has long been a welcoming shelter for foster children.
